La Grande Maison

La Petite Auberge

La Grand Maison is our largest gite.  It is designed for large family holidays or for a group of friends.  The gite has a wealth of original features including beams and stone walls.  It sleeps 16 in 6 bedrooms and has 5 bath or shower rooms.  The furniture is a mixture of old and modern pieces.

Entering through the front door, you come into a large hall with a feature stone wall.  The doorways into the kitchen, ground floor bedroom and the separate dinning room are original and are made for people who were shorter than today. Anyone over 5ft 6ins should duck when going through theses doorways!  The doors are from a more recent period in La Grande Maison's history when it was converted from the original farm buildings to a restaurant.

The farmhouse kitchen has been recently renovated.  It is 5m by 5m and is large enough for people to congregate for drinks and nibbles whilst cooking.  There is an American, side-by-side fridge freezer with ice making and water chilling facilities.  There is a under counter top fridge near the kettle for milk and cold drinks.  The stove is a range cooker with five gas burners with an electric oven / grill and extraction hood.  There is a microwave/combination oven for your convenience.

The numerous cupboards and drawers contain everything you need for cooking for large groups.  The central island has a stainless steel top (another souvenir of the old restaurant) which is great for pastry making or for putting down hot pans.  As well as a double sink for washing up and food preparation, there is a second sink for hand washing.  There is also a dishwasher.  A small dining table and chairs mean that snacks and children's meals can be served up in the kitchen if you want.

On the other side of the hall, there is the large dining room which has two dining room tables that seat 16.  This is entered by the other low doorway (so remember to duck if you are tall)!  Off the dining room is a cloakroom with WC and wash basin.  From the dining room there are internal French doors to the lounge.  How can we describe it!  BIG comes to mind.

Originally the main barn, it is 9m by 7m with a cathedral ceiling.  There are exposed stone walls, beams, and a large mezzanine with dart board, books and board games.  The original barn doors have been replaced with extra large patio doors which give amazing views over the plateau in front of the Auberge with its vines and plum orchards.

For the musical amongst you, there is a piano and a harmonium organ to play.  Seating includes plenty of sofas and armchairs, which are so comfortable that you will be tempted to doze in them!

Also in the lounge is a TV with video and DVD player.  The TV system is fed from a satellite, giving all of the usual English channels via free view.

If the weather turns cold (which is unlikely in June, July, August and September) there is a fantastic Norwegian log burning stove!

The ground floor bedroom is a large double with its own en-suite bathroom with separate bath, shower, bidet, W.C and twin sink vanity unit.  This bedroom has a door onto the private courtyard so that you can easily drink your first morning cup of team in the sun.  It has wardrobes and chests of drawers for storage.  The bed is a king size and there is more than enough room to fit a cot in this room.

The ground floor also has a laundry room with 2 washing machines .

The first floor of La Grande Maison is reached from the hall via a wooden staircase.  On this floor there is a large landing which leads to 5 further bedrooms, 3 of them are en-suite and 2 of them have their own wash basins.  This is also seperate shower room.  Each room is individually designed and furnished and have a mixture of comfortable beds with old and modern furniture.

Bordeaux
This is the largest room on this floor and sleeps 4.  It is at the right at the top of the stairs with a small step down into it.  The bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with bath shower.  This room is split in two by a large beam at about chest height.  To save your head and back, we have placed all the furniture you need on the side of the room nearest the door although there are two single beds for children!!  This room also has a double bed, chest of drawers and a built in wardrobe.

Perchamont
Perchamont is a double room on the north side of the property and sleeps 2.  This means it is one of the coolest bedrooms in the summer.  The bedroom and shower both have a velux roof window to let the heat out.  This shower room also has a W.C and wash basin.  There is a wardrobe and chest of drawers for clothes storage as well as bedside cabinets.

Monbazillac
Monbazillac sleeps 3 in double and single beds.  This bedroom shares a shower room located on the landing with one other bedroom (Bergerac) so it is ideal for kids!  It does, however, have a hand basin in the room as well as a wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Duras
This bedroom can sleep up to 3 people, in a double bed and a single bed.  The bedroom has a wooden floor with velux roof light/window.  It has an en-suite fully tiled shower room with shower cubicle, basin and W.C.  A wardrobe and chest of drawers is provided for clothes storage, with bedside tables, table lights etc

Bergerac
This is a twin bedroom with single beds, sleeping 2 people.  As for Monbazillac, it shares the shower room located on the landing, and has a basin, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
